LCOE for Solar PV in 2021

Levelized Cost of Electricity for Solar PV

Here are some more snippets from the Photovoltaics Report for 2021, which are more fully examined in the latest Study “Levelized Cost of Electricity, Renewable Energy Technologies” 2021 – published by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems.

As we would expect the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for utility-scale solar PV plants is low, among the lowest costs, at around 3 to 6 cents/kWhr – a figure which compares favourably with onshore wind costs of around 4 to 8 cents/kWhr in the German market.

Most consumers would be interested in the LCOE for small-scale (< 30 kWp) rooftop solar PV systems with battery, which are producing electricity for German consumers at 8 to 19 cents/kWhr – a considerable improvement on the retail cost there of around 32 cents/kWhr.

An investment in solar PV systems for homes and businesses has never looked so inviting or necessary.

Comparable results are certainly achievable in Ireland, for both utility-scale and small scale rooftop solar PV systems with batteries.
