Ireland is the most expensive country in Europe for electricity in 2021.
According to Eurostat, the European statistics agency, Ireland is the most expensive country in Europe for electricity before taxes and levies are added.
This fact is represented by the green portion of the graph shown below from Eurostat.

After their considerable taxes and levies are added, Germany becomes the most expensive country in Europe on the price of electricity for household customers. Ireland drops to fourth place below Denmark and Belgium, with prices for the top four countries varying from around 25 cents/kWhr to 32 cents/kWhr.
What this means in practice is that household consumers throughout northern Europe are actively looking for alternative sources of energy in order to free themselves from the ever-increasing price of energy in the market.
If energy independence is the goal, then solar photovoltaics is the best step that households and businesses can take to achieve energy independence at this moment in time.
