Fix the Cost of your Electricity

Fix the Cost of your Electricity for Thirty Years

Want to fix the cost of your electricity? Here’s how!

Many people are suffering right now as a result of the inflationary spiral that is happening in energy markets.

As disgraceful as that is, instead of dwelling on the problem, we want to direct your attention to a solution for your woes – Solar PV.

Installing a solar PV system at your home or business will really and truly FIX the price of your electricity for the lifetime of your project – which is usually 25 to 30 years.

It’s that simple!

Install solar PV and fix your electricity costs.

Benefits to installing Solar PV

The benefits that accrue from installing a solar PV system are many.

Let’s just give you the highlights.

– Solar PV saves you a lot of money on your annual bills.

– Solar PV helps you fix the cost of your electricity.

– Solar PV can give you energy security.

– Solar PV produces energy at peak times of the day where utility companies are starting to charge premium prices.

There are many other benefits to solar PV which we will review at another time. Let’s look now at how the cost of electricity is calculated by LCOE.

LCOE for Solar PV

The Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) is a term and a method used to compare different forms of electricity production.

According to research from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Solar PV is the cheapest way to produce electricity at scale, and is comparable with other large-scale solutions when applied to small-scale rooftop solar installations.

Homeowners and small businesses can achieve great value from small-scale rooftop solar PV systems, which are designated as smaller than < 30 kWp.

If you take the cost of your initial investment – less any grant incentives and feed-in tariffs earned – you can calculate the cost of each unit of electricity produced by your solar PV system.

Although polysilicon prices have increased since 2021, we maintain that solar PV can still produce electricity at scale for 3 – 6 cents/kWh, and small-scale rooftop solar PV systems with battery can still produce electricity for 8 – 19 cents/kWh.

These numbers look ever-more attractive with prices in Ireland at an all-time high and still rising. Anecdotally, in Ireland today, customers are being charged anywhere from 32 cents/kWh to 42 cents/kWh.

The more utility company pricing spirals out of control, the more attractive solar PV systems become for homes and business.

Save don’t borrow

The old maxim of “save, don’t borrow“, is a fine maxim to live by.

However in current circumstances where energy bills are out of control, it may be worth your while “borrowing to survive”.

For a small domestic user your energy bills are already heading for €6,000 to €7,000 per annum. You could borrow that amount to install a solar PV system and slash your future energy bills in the process.

Likewise, for a family home where energy bills are heading for €12,000 per annum. This should buy you a moderate size solar PV system which will produce enough electricity to keep your home running for most of the year.
